When a person suffers from migraines, the effects can be devastating. Many are shocked to learn that as much as 12% of the US population suffers from migraines. The condition disproportionately affects women 3 to 1. It is one of the most common neurological disorders and a severe headache is not the only symptom. Most patients present with nausea, dizziness, sensory sensitivities, or other symptoms.
Researchers are always looking for the next big thing when it comes to migraine resolution. A recent clinical trial involved a patch that would be applied as a migraine was starting to come on. The patch would be applied either to an arm or a leg. This would allow it to release medication into the bloodstream for 4 hours. Unfortunately, the patch proved unsuccessful for most patients and was betters suited to reducing nausea than headache pain. Also, at best the patch is just a temporary fix for symptoms and does nothing as far as preventing future migraines is concerned.

Real relief from migraines has to address one of the most common underlying potential causes—an upper cervical misalignment. When the atlas is out of alignment, it can affect blood and cerebrospinal fluid flow to and from the brain. Pressure may also be placed on the brainstem or spinal cord. Any of these factors can cause migraines.
In a research paper reviewing more than 100 migraine and headache patients, it was revealed that upper cervical chiropractic care can help to resolve headaches and migraines. Sometimes only 1 or 2 adjustments were needed.
